Michael Charles Descamps Born: July 30, 1946 In Detroit Passed Away November 11, 2019 in Detroit
With sparkling eyes, a bright smile, and a calm and gentle spirit, Mike Descamps touched the lives of many people across generations. Born in Detroit on July 30, 1946 to Jules Descamps Sr and Anna McMullin, Mike became at age 12 the first Eagle Scout of BSA Troop 718. His pursuit of scripture led him to attend the Servite Seminary in Hillsdale, Illinois from which he graduated in 1964. Afterwards he attended Stonebridge Priory before pursuing collegiate study at St. Louis University. He returned to Detroit to pursue a career in insurance, first at Western Insurance and then The Home, before joining the family - owned business, Charles L. Descamps & Son Insurance Agency. Shortly before his 21st birthday, he met the love of his life, Grace Giacalone, with whom he attended Wayne State University and later married.
Mike was active in many organizations over half a century. Past - President of Denby Kiwanis, 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus #2463, President of the Lake Chemung Riparian Association, member of the Planning Commission of St. Clair Shores and membership in the Belgian American Association and Alhambra.
Mike pursued his passion for emergency medicine as an instructor in WCCC's school of Emergency medical technician training for over ten years, and spent many summer weekends managing a first - aid tent at various local festivals.
Mike was always interested in the way that the mind affected the body, eventually graduating from Wayne State University with a degree in Psychology, and then resuming his spiritual studies as a minister in the Founding Church of Metapsionics. After a period of membership at Renaissance Unity, Mike found his spirtual home at Bethel Lutheran in St. Clair Shores.
Along with his brother Joe, he managed the insurance agency for 3 decades before retiring in 2013.
Mike is survived by his wife Grace with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 12th; sons Karel (Claudia) and Mick (Shannon), and daughter Megan (Mike) Green; grandchildren Aaron, Katie and Charlotte Descamps, and Alex and Sonia Green; great-grandchildren Franchi and Grazia Gianino; brother Joe (Val) Descamps; sisters Carla Minton and Sue Stahl; sisters -in-law Tish, Margaret, Carolyn and Janis, and brother -in-law John Giacalone; many nephews, nieces, cousins and good friends.
Visitation will take place Friday, November 15, 2019 from 2PM to 9PM at St. Clair Shores Chapel of Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home 25800 Harper Avenue (3blks North of 10Mile) Instate Saturday, November 16, at Bethel Luthern Church 26400 Little Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores from 10AM until time of Service at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the charity of your choice in Mike's name would be appreciated by the family.
