Lonnie V. Byrd was born on March 21, 1934 in Tunica, Mississippi to the union of Lonnie and Henrietta Crawford, who both preceded her in death. Lonnie fought a long and hard battle against Alzheimer, but finally succumb to it while residing at Heartland Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the age of 85.
Lonnie is also predeceased by her husband Curtis Byrd Sr.; sisters Naola Crawford, Fannie Mae Embry, and Olivia Watson, as well as a son Stevie Crawford.
Lonnie is lovingly remembered by siblings: Bernice Harris of Cape Girardeau, MO; LeAnna White of High Point, NC; and Major Clark of Sikeston, MO; her children: Willie Ray Crawford of Detroit, MI; Ivory Lamar Crawford of Warren, MI; Loistene Phillips (Ron) of Roseville, MI; Lonnie Benoit Butler (Diana) of San Bernardino, CA; Harriet Henrietta Crawford of San Bernardino, CA; Harold Major Crawford of Detroit, MI; Curtis Earl Byrd Jr. of Warren, MI; and Donna Marie Blocton (Claude) of Warren, MI; Lonnie had 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was a home maker and self-taught seamstress, and used her talents to re-upholster furniture and decorate and design homes and offices.
Among her other accomplishments was when she excitedly and willingly dedicated her life to serving Jehovah God in 1976.
A Memorial will be celebrated on Thursday May 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081 with the family receiving from 1:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM
