John Richard Pitcher, age 93, of Unionville, formerly of Eastpointe, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019, at his home.

John was born December 10, 1925, in Bay Port, to George and Victoria (nee Whitman) Pitcher. He married Victoria Kwiatkowski, in Toledo, Ohio, January 4, 1957. She preceded him in death in 1999. John lived in Eastpointe for 30 years before moving to and living in Unionville for 20 years. John spent 22 years in the Marine Corp. as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He was a POW and was a Purple Heart Recipient for the battle in Iwogima. He was a member of the VFW Post in Eastpointe, the TTCC (Thumb 2 Cylinder Club), and collected antique John Deere Tractors.

John is survived by his children: Christine (Mike Venet) Finkbeiner, Jaqueline Pitcher, Larry (Dianne) Pitcher, Jude (Cindy) Pitcher and Maureen (John Livernois) Beleck; 8 grandchildren: Michele Megie, Valerie Gallo, Mark Pitcher, Bradley Pitcher, Devin Pitcher, Cory Pitcher, Couryn Beleck and Olivia Beleck; 1 great grandchild, Tori Daros; and half brother, Bruce Fibranz.

John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Victoria, and siblings.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 3-9pm and Friday, August 9, 2019, at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores, from 5-9pm.

A private burial will be Saturday, at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township at 11am with military honors.

Memorial donations may be given to Heartland Hospice.
