Mike Wheeler

James Michael Wheeler aka Mike, age 79 of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020. Beloved husband of Phyllis Wheeler. Loving father of Justine Michel Wheeler of St. Clair Shores, Jim Wheeler and Kristen Wheeler of Massachusetts. Brother of Sally Jo Bailey of Franklin, WI. Predeceased by his twin brother Wm. Patrick Wheeler.
Mike was born December 10, 1940 in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan and spent his youth in Iron Mountain. Mike received his Associate Business Degree form Holyoke Community College, Bachelor of Science from American International College and his Master of Arts Degree from Saginaw Valley State University with a major in education. Mike also received his teacher certification from Eastern Michigan University. Mike proudly served in the USAF (SAC) serving as Crew Chief on a KC-97, he also served in the USN and Coast Guard Reserves. Mike retired from the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters Local 687, during his retirement he was a manager at Oakland County Troy Airport.
Mike would be remembered by many from his downtown Detroit days as the manager of the Post Bar and owner of Wheeler’s Bar & Grill.
Mike was passionate about airplanes, flying, boating and his golden retrievers and spending time with his family. Mike will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation at the St. Clair Shores Chapel of Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Avenue, Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, funeral mass, Thursday, March 12, 2020 at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 21440 Universal Drive, Eastpointe, MI 48021, instate at 9:00 AM until Mass at 9:30 AM.
