Audrey June Boyes

MISS AUDREY BOYES passed away Sunday evening at the age of 92. A teacher at heart, Audrey taught Kindergarten for East Detroit Public Schools for more than 40 years. She earned both a Bachelor and Master Degree in Education from the Wayne State University.
Born in February 1926, she was baptized 39 days after her birth, and confirmed into the Lutheran Christian faith in 1939. Ms. Boyes came to Bethel in 1986 and enjoyed the friendship of many over the years. She remained in her parents’ home in Eastpointe until she was no longer able to be alone. A strong, independent spirit, Audrey found great joy supporting our congregation and a helping a number of our outreach ministries. She loved to shop and often would arrive at the church with a car load of items for our food pantry, clothing giveaways and other projects.
During her retirement she was fortunate to travel many times around the world enjoying excursions to places in Africa, Australia, Eastern Europe, and Antarctica.
Through her years, she was supported by many friends. In her later years she found good companionship with Mrs. Stephanie Hayes, who, with the assistance of her family, kept Audrey as independent as possible.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS have been made through the Bagnasco-Calcaterra Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores, located at 25800 Harper Ave.
VISITATION will take place on WEDNESDAY, September 26, 4:00 - 8:00 pm.
FUNERAL SERVICES will take place at the funeral home on THURSDAY, September 27, beginning at 10:30 am.
